University of Massachusetts Amherst: Winter Pre-College
For students with an interest in Psychology, UMass Amherst is offering the opportunity to participate in one of two research labs in a 4-week program starting in December. Placements are available in the Kwak Lab: Neuro Learning and Performance Lab, which studies decision-making in adolescents, and the Ready LAb: Aging, Cognition, and Emotion Lab, which studies the effects of concussions and mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Students will be able to participate in the following activities:
Attend live Zoom lab and project meetings with UMass faculty and graduate students
Engage in activities such as participant recruitment, data collection & analysis, and presentation of scientific findings
Gain hands-on experience with university-level research while learning about educational pathways for future research opportunities
The program’s selection process emphasizes passion and potential as opposed to pre-existing merit, so it can serve as a great program to introduce underclassmen or upperclassmen who have no experience with scientific research as well as provide a stepping stone for more prestigious research programs later in high school.
